SOLO’s Wilderness First Responder (WFR) course is the internationally recognized industry standard for those who work as backcountry trip leaders, camp counselors, mountain guides, river guides, and ski patrollers. This WFR course is a 72-hour course spanned over 7 days from May 4-10, 2019 in Buena Vista, CO.
The WFR is the perfect course for anyone working in a position of leadership in an outdoor setting or for individuals who want a high level of wilderness medical training for extended personal backcountry trips or expeditions. During this course, you’ll take a comprehensive and in-depth look at the standards and skills of dealing with Response and Assessment, Musculoskeletal Injuries, Environmental Emergencies and Survival Skills, Soft Tissue Injuries, and Medical Emergencies. There is ongoing evaluation of practical skills, and a written test. At the end of the course, you’ll receive your SOLO Wilderness First Responder certification, which is good for three years. After the expiration of your certification, you may take either a 2-day Wilderness First Responder Refresher Course or a 2-day Wilderness First Aid course to re-certify.
WHAT ABOUT DAY STUDENTS?
Day students are welcome and encouraged as camping and lodging are available in the area. The day-student price at the SOLO campus includes all class-day meals, but no lodging.
EDUCATIONAL / FUNCTIONAL JOB REQUIREMENTS FOR WILDERNESS MEDICAL STUDENTS AND PROVIDERS
Wilderness First Responder and Wilderness EMT are job-training programs leading to widely recognized certifications. Based on the Department of Transportation’s First Responder and EMT curriculums, the WFR and WEMT programs integrate both wilderness and medical training.
DOES THE WFR COUNT AS CONTINUING EDUCATION?
The WFR usually counts as continuing education credits, although it may depend on what certification you have. Street EMTs who take the WFR course are certified as Wilderness EMTs.
