Locals’ Advice – Things To Do

Planning on taking an adventure with AVA this summer but not sure what else there is to do? Our rafting trips take place on three different rivers around Colorado. When visiting these areas, there are lots of other fun attractions and activities near our outposts to keep you and your family occupied before and after your adventure. Check out some of these local hot spots for things to do around our rafting and ziplining outposts.

Things To DoIdaho Springs

The Argo Gold Mine and Mill is a popular tourist destination located close to our Idaho Springs rafting and zip line outpost. On the mine tour an experienced guide will take you through history as you learn about the tunnel during its time of operation and even witness a live demonstration of old fashioned crushing, milling, and rock drilling. You will than visit the double eagle mine to learn all about the equipment used in the mine and well as tools and relics left over from the gold rush.

Looking to bag a 14er (14,000’ peak) without all the hiking? Mt. Evans is located just up the road from our Idaho Springs outpost. Literally!  Continue up the road from our outpost and it will take you up the mountain with stunning views along each of the switchbacks.  For those who DO want the workout, hiking trails are easily accessible and a great way to explore the area in more detail.

Things To DoGranite

The Buena Vista area near our Arkansas River rafting and zipline outpost is full of fun things to do around the immediate area. Check out some of these great attractions.

Take a gorgeous horseback trail ride with the Mt. Princeton Stables. Mt. Princeton riding stables offer trails rides for all ages and is the perfect addition to a rafting and zipline adventure.  Experience the beauty of Colorado via horseback as you travel through beautiful forests and rolling foothills. Trail rides range from 1 hour to multi day overnight trips. All trail rides are guided and can accommodate all schedules, ages, and experience levels.

Cottonwood Lake in Buena Vista is a wonderful destination that is the area’s best kept secret. This popular destination for campers and anglers is located close to our outpost and offers a very scenic drive to your destination. This gorgeous lake and campground is great for those looking to get away for the evening and enjoy nature in its undisturbed beauty.


Located half way between Summit County and Steamboat Springs, the small town of Kremmling has virtually every outdoor activity available at your fingertips. Check out some of these great attractions to experience before or after your Colorado River rafting trip.

The Wolford Mountain Recreation area is an excellent choice for those looking to get a little more out of their outdoor experience. The lands within the Wolford Recreation area offer a plethora of outdoor recreational activities such as hiking, wildlife viewing, picnicking, sightseeing, fishing, hunting, horseback riding, mountain biking, camping, and vehicle touring.

For even more fun, head farther north to Steamboat Springs where there will be lots of fun summer attractions to keep the whole family occupied. Take a guided hike on Mt. Werner with beautiful views of the Yampa Valley and surrounding areas. The ski area has miles of mountain bike trails for all skill levels and a scenic gondola ride is the perfect way to end your adventure.
