Holiday Bucket List

The holidays are a fantastic time of year full of joy and wonderment. There is just something about the holiday season that perks the soul up a bit and makes everyone a little more cheerful. Everyone has their own traditions for the holidays – some passed down through families, some made new this coming year. If you and your loved ones are looking for some new Colorado holiday traditions why not check out our Bucket List of musts.

Denver Zoo of Lights

Every December, the Denver zoo is lit up like a magical paradise with real and light sculpted animals alike. Santa is there for the kiddos to play with and animals even come out to play. 70 acres will illuminate the zoo this year! Learn more here.

The Nutcracker Ballet

The story of Clara and the Nutcracker is a holiday favorite and a classic play. Join others for the joy of Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker” at the beautiful Ellie Caulkins Opera house in Denver. Learn more here.

Denver Botanic Gardens Blossoms of Lights

This really is a spectacular sight for people of all ages. The entire gardens are light up with sculptures, light features and some special extras to get you in the holiday spirit.  The Gardens turn into a winter wonderland at night with sparkling fairy lights mimicking animals and plants along the trail.  Learn more here.

The Polar Express

One popular holiday family tradition is to read the Polar Express on Christmas Eve.  Make the tradition come alive and ride the Polar Express in Golden this winter season! The Colorado Railroad Museum goes all out for this event, even providing hot chocolate on the train.  Learn more here.

NYE Great Gatsby White Rose Gala

Take a step back to the 1920’s with this Great Gatsby themed party. Make sure you dress to the hilts and get your dancing shoes on. The Ellie Caulkins Opera house holds their parties to the highest standard, so be prepared to go all out and flash back to the past for the evening.  Learn more here.

Molly Browns House Museum

While this may not seem like a traditional item for a bucket list, the Molly Brown House gets really festive around the holidays. The house is decorated in traditional Victorian stylings – ornaments, decorations, and much more. If you’re looking for a unique experience to celebrate Christmas, make a stop here this year!  Learn more here.

The Race of the Santas

Come up to Breckenridge the first weekend in December to watch this once in a lifetime sight. Hundreds of Santas, elves, and reindeers gather at the top of Main Street and race their way down, costumes and all. Not only is it absolutely hilarious, but it benefits The Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center as well. The event culminates with the lighting of the city, something magical to get you in the holiday spirit.

Check out some of these awesome events, or attend them all this holiday season!  If you’re looking for some fun activities, give us a call at 877-RAFTING or check out our Via Feratta and Cliffside Zipline tours in Idaho Springs while the weather is still warm.
