Splurge or Steal: Rock Climbing Gear

Colorado Zipline with Kids

Just one more thrilling sport to participate in during our beautiful Rocky Mountain Summer. Whether you are a beginner or an expert rock climber, the appropriate and correctly fitting gear is imperative. Be sure to stop in to one of the local shops to pick up a full kit, a guide book or just some extra chalk. Each shop will have knowledgeable and helpful employees that can assist you in gear suggestions as well as local craigs.

Breckenridge

The best option for climbing gear in Breckenridge would be Mountain Outfitters just off Main Street. It is a family owned and operated business that has employed some of the most knowledgeable mountaineering staff in the county. One of the coolest things about this shop is that everyone working there actually uses the gear they are recommending. “Whether you are preparing for Denali or planning to hike a 14er, we have the gear and the knowledgeable staff to get you outfitted properly for your adventure.”

Buena Vista

Buena Vista, located just 13 miles south of our AVA Granite Outpost, is a mecca for outdoor fun. The surrounding area is actually one of the most popular rock climbing areas in Colorado and a shop called the Trailhead is going to be your one-stop-shop. They have a huge range of clothing, gear and as well as gear rentals. It is a locally owned shop since 1973 and has been employing experienced and knowledgeable outdoor enthusiasts from the beginning.

Idaho Springs

Surrounding the town of Idaho Springs is a plethora of different craigs to climb both sport and traditional. If you have ever rafted the Lower Canyon with AVA Rafting and Zipline, I'm sure you have seen people climbing the rock walls towering above the Clear Creek river. Mad Mike's Outdoor Gear and Espresso Bar, located just a few miles up I70 in Georgetown, will have a solid selection of gear as well as a cool vibe and coffee drinks.
